MAISA Team Race Champs Results
WASHINGTON - Competing in its first-ever MAISA Team Race Championship, GW sailing finished two victories shy of advancing to the ICSA National Team Race Championship and in seventh place in the eight-team fleet.
GW completed racing on Sunday in seventh place with a 4-10 head-to-head record, two victories behind a four-way tie for third at 6-8. Navy and Fordham secured the tiebreakers over Old Dominion and Hobart and William Smith to join regatta champion Georgetown (13-1) and runner-up St. Mary's (12-2) as the four MAISA teams to advance to ICSA Nationals.
Freshman Roger Dorr and sophomore Brendan Shanahan split boats with rookies Belle Strachan and Miranda Bakos, while freshman Kai Friesecke and senior Matthew Ricci raced the Colonials' third boat.
"We had many opportunities that we didn't take advantage of during a lot of racing on Saturday, and couldn't make up much ground with little racing on Sunday," said Head Coach John Pearce. "The result is a bit disappointing, but we're looking forward to improving on it next year."
With the spring team racing slate complete, GW will turn its focus to coed and women's action for the final three weeks of the regular season beginning with the Navy Spring Regatta in Annapolis, Maryland, and President's Trophy Women's in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 18-19.
