GW Baseball's Metz, LeWarne Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington baseball freshman Robbie Metz earned his third Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Award of the season while junior Bobby LeWarne was named the conference's Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Metz was instrumental in GW's 3-1 week as the Colonials improved to 7-3 overall through 10 games for the first time since the 1983 season.
The Poolesville, Maryland, native started his week by earning his first collegiate win on the mound in GW's 5-1 win over Georgetown on Wednesday. Metz threw seven innings of one-run ball, scattering six hits with no walks and two strikeouts. At the plate as the designated hitter, he went 2-for-3 with one RBI, one run and two stolen bases.
He went on to record multiple hits in each of GW's three games against Manhattan this past weekend, going 2-for-4 with one RBI in Saturday's 3-1 win before hitting a combined 4-for-7 with one double, one RBI and one run scored in Sunday's doubleheader split.
For the week, Metz batted .571 (8-of-14) with three RBIs, two runs, two stolen bases and one double.
LeWarne earned his second career A-10 weekly award by throwing seven innings of one-run ball in GW's 3-1 win over Manhattan on Saturday afternoon. He allowed one run on five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts while retiring the final 12 batters he faced in order.
The Des Moines, Iowa, native was previously named the A-10 Pitcher of the Week on March 17, 2014.
