WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team looks to extend its three-game win streak when it welcomes UMES and Georgetown to Tucker Field at Barcroft Park for a pair of non-conference games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
GW is off to its best start through the first five games of the season since 2008. The Colonials won all three games it played last week, defeating Georgetown, 3-0, last Wednesday before winning two games over Niagara on Friday and Saturday, outscoring the Purple Eagles by a combined score of 22-12.
Sophomore Joey Bartosic extended his program-record hit streak to 19 consecutive games with base hits in all three contests last week. He currently leads the Colonials with a .450 batting average and is a team-best 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.
Senior Ryan Xepoleas ranks second on the team with a .368 batting average and a team-best six runs scored. Sophomore Andrew Selby is hitting .357 with five extra-base hits (three triples, two doubles).
Dating back to last season, sophomore Eddie Muhl has gone 15.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. This season he has two saves in 4.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
GW is 11-3 in the all-time series against UMES after winning a pair of games last season.
The Colonials will attempt to go for the series sweep over Georgetown for the first time since 2001. GW scored three runs in the seventh inning to break a scoreless tie on February 25 and defeat the Hoyas, 3-0.
