WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will return to action by hosting Niagara for a three-game series this weekend at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Freshman Robbie Metz, sophomore Eddie Muhl and junior Shane Kemp combined to shut out the Hoyas, limiting the opposition to seven hits across nine innings.
Freshman Brandon Chapman provided the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning and sophomore Eli Kashi followed moments later with a run-scoring base hit to give GW a 2-0 lead.
The Colonials added an insurance run in the eighth to clinch the win and improve its all-time record against Georgetown to 90-39-1.
Junior Bobby LeWarne will get the start in the series opener on Friday afternoon. LeWarne earned the win in GW's season debut when he threw seven innings of one-run ball with two walks and six strikeouts in a 5-1 victory over NJIT on February 14.
Sophomore Joey Bartosic extended his program-record hit streak to 17 games on Wednesday and currently leads the Colonials with a .462 batting average (6-for-13) across the first three games of the season.
