WASHINGTON -- George Washington alum Ryan Hickey '13 has joined the Colonials' baseball staff as the Director of Baseball Operations, head coach Gregg Ritchie has announced.
Hickey replaces Jim McKew, who left to join the Detroit Tigers as a player development assistant. He will be responsible for the oversight of the program's student managers, travel and recruiting plans, practice management and alumni relations.
Hickey appeared in 107 games, with 99 starts, across two seasons as GW's primary center fielder. He totaled 10 doubles, two home runs and 33 RBIs and played a key role in the resurgence of GW baseball after helping the Colonials to their first postseason appearance and appearance since 2006 as a senior in 2013.
The Freeport, Illinois, native is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Sport Management at GW. While working towards his graduate degree he has served as the Colonials' Nike Account Manager and as a member of GW's facilities and operations staff.
He has also served as a MLB Asia Envoy Program Coach, helping in the development and improvement of MLB China Development Centers in Changzhou, China.
