WASHINGTON - The George Washington lacrosse program has announced today that Erin Goodman has joined its staff as assistant coach under the direction of first-year Head Coach Tracy Coyne.
A three-year starting goalkeeper during Coach Coyne's helm at Notre Dame, Coach Goodman brings a wealth of playing experience to her post with the Colonials squad.
"I am pleased to have Erin join us at GW," said Coach Coyne. "She is a bright, energetic young woman who will be an excellent role model and coach. Along with her understanding of my coaching style and philosophy, she will bring a great dynamic to the team because she competed at the highest level as a student-athlete. Erin will play an integral role as we pursue our goal of playing in the A-10 Championship title game this spring, and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with her again on the lacrosse field. She understands what it takes to win and will do her best to instill that same attitude into the players here."
As a student-athlete, Coach Goodman guided the Fighting Irish to its first Big East Championship in 2009 where she earned a spot on the all-tournament team and was tabbed Most Outstanding Player. She finished her playing career ranking among the program's leaders in nearly every goalkeeper category as she currently ranks second in minutes played (3,366:18), wins (39) and saves (477) and is third with a 10.61 goals-against average. Coach Goodman also previously held the Notre Dame record for fewest goals in a game when she held Loyola to one tally in an 11-1 triumph during the 2007 season.
"I am grateful for the opportunity that Patrick Nero and Tracy Coyne have given me to join the GW Athletics Department," Coach Goodman said. "I am excited for our team's potential and I look forward to competing for an A-10 Championship this spring."
Upon graduation, Coach Goodman served as a graduate assistant coach for the Lehigh women's lacrosse team from 2009-10. During her stint, Coach Goodman helped the Mountain Hawks to its first top-20 RPI ranking with a 14-4 record. She also served as the team liaison to the Lehigh Leadership Academy.
For four years Coach Goodman worked at various lacrosse camps where she taught fundamental skills to campers ages 9-18 and planned curriculums to suit the campers' range of abilities. She was also a full time teacher's aide for five years for the Board of Cooperative Education Services, working with students who were physically, mentally and emotionally handicapped ranging in ages 5-21, as she assisted with academic and emotional development, both in the classroom as well as during community activities.
A 2009 graduate of Notre Dame with a bachelor's of arts in economics and English, Coach Goodman was a member of the Veteran Leadership Program, was a four-year member of the Big East Academic All-Star Team and was twice named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. She is currently working toward her master's degree in speech pathology at GW.
