Brendon Kelliher Named To ABCA All-East Region First Team

MONMOUTH, N.J.- George Washington University baseball standout Brendon Kelliher was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region First Team on Wednesday. The honor marks Kelliher's second post-season accolade following his selection to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team.
He joins Temple's Steve Nikorak as the only Atlantic 10 representatives on the ABCA first team.
Kelliher concluded the 2011 regular season as the A-10 leader in home runs with 15 and second in total bases (136). Additionally, he led the Colonials in 10 offensive categories, highlighted by a .358 batting average, 41 RBIs, 40 runs scored, 78 hits and 11 stolen bases. The Sandwich, Mass., native also led the Colonials with 22 multiple-hit games and 11 multiple-RBI games.
In 2011 Kelliher posted two separate 11-game hitting streaks. The first, from Feb. 19 to March 9 saw him hit .364 (16-of-44) with three doubles and four RBIs. During the second streak, from April 10-30, Kelliher hit .400 (18-of-45) with five home runs, 11 RBIs, three doubles and nine runs scored. At one point, Kelliher safely reached base in 17 consecutive games, including 11 straight to end the season.
Kelliher started in 182 games at GW in his career with a .326 batting average. He concluded his collegiate career ranked sixth in GW history with 37 home runs, ninth with 150 RBIs and 10th with 390 total bases.
GW capped the 2011 season with a 3-2 victory over A-10 rival Temple on May 21 to finish 19-36 overall and 9-15 in the A-10. The Colonials return eight starters and 22 letterwinners in 2012.
