WASHINGTON, DC -- The Atlantic 10 Conference softball coaches voted George Washington freshman outfielder Chelsea Lenhart to the 2011 A-10 All-Rookie Team, the league announced today.
"Chelsea has done a great job for us hitting in the leadoff spot," said head coach Stacey Schramm. "We want her to have the most at bats on the team because she has proven to be a huge threat against her opponents. She deserves this honor as her work ethic in the [batting] cage has paid off when it counts. I am very proud of her."
Lenhart roamed the outfield in all 44 of GW's games in 2011, 42 of which she batted leadoff for the Colonials. The Phoenix, AZ, native lead the Colonials with a .316 batting average, 49 hits, 10 doubles, 27 runs batted in and a slugging percentage of .432. She also hit two home runs in the first game of a doubleheader at Rhode Island on April 22.
She earned three Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors in the month of March, including back-to-back weeks on March 21 and March 28. Lenhart posted a .517 batting average in eight games during that two-week span, and hit seven doubles and 13 RBIs with three stolen bases and drew three walks.
Lenhart is the first Colonial since senior teammate Katie Terrazas, in 2008, to be named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team, the same season Amanda Gabriel and Chrysanthi Halkiotis were named to the A-10 All-Conference Second Team.
The Colonials wrapped up the 2011 season with a 16-27-1 overall record and 6-14 in league play under first-year coach Stacey Schramm.
