Post-Game Quotes
GW Coach Mike Bozeman
Opening Statement
"I'm probably as frustrated as a basketball coach can be. I thought we started off pretty well, and then in some regards we got flat, and St Bonaventure, to their credit, was true to the scout. Their shooters shot the ball, their penetrators penetrated, and their main go-to player did what the scout said she would. I think as a team, GW didn't show up tonight. I'm embarrassed by the effort. It's not acceptable. We'll go back into the gym and keep hammering away to bring the effort we display in practice to the game."
What did you and the team talk about after the game?
"I let them talk for the most part. Yeah, we have some injuries. We have three 20+ minute players who aren't playing now. We lost Danni at some point in the first half, but that shouldn't prevent the effort that's expected from GW basketball. It's incumbent on me to push those buttons. I made a concentrated effort today to remain seated and give my team room to make mistakes and play through them."
What's at issue with scoring now?
"One of the main things we talk about in practice is skillful focus and the skillful zone - three-point line and in. I think there was a lack of that focus. We missed every kind of shot. So that turns back to a lack of focus, and that was exploited today."
Talk about your struggles defending the three today.
"Against Richmond, we gave up 12 threes, and I thought they were picking apart our zone. Today, I felt like we should be able to match up with them man-to-man. And there lies the lack of energy. But you have to give credit to St. Bonaventure. They came in, executed their gameplan and hit their shots, even though someone was contesting. But I don't think they faced the full GW arsenal today."
Do you feel that the team is still heading in the right direction?
"I felt the Richmond game was more indicative of what we can do. We played a good competitive game against Rutgers. We didn't throw they game away; they took the game away. Same thing with Richmond; they got an outstanding performance by one of the top players in the conference. But today, it was definitely a step back, a stumble. Nothing I don't' think we can't fix. I think we are progressing. That's the frustrating part - having confidence as a coach that my team is going to give me 100 percent when they get to the gym. We have to correct that."
Sophomore guard Danni Jackson
How did your injury happen and how are you feeling now?
"It's been hurting for a couple of days. I just took a bad step and tweaked it again, And it's painful right now."
Junior guard Tiana Myers
What's the team's mindset right now?
"We thought today was kind of frustrating because it was a lack of energy on the court. But we can't hang our heads. We're not learning from the games; we're learning from the experiences on the court."
What did you talk about after the game?
"The most important part was energy and sticking together. When St. Bonaventure went on tbeir run, we just need to remain together."
