Volleyball Pounds Princeton, 3-0, at Rockvale Outlets Classic

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA -- The GW Volleyball team salvaged its trip to Penn State with a 3-0 sweep of Princeton Saturday afternoon in the Rockvale Outlets Classic at PSU's Rec Hall. The Colonials won by the scores, 25-17, 25-17, 25-15, over the Tigers. The victory gave GW third place in the tournament behind No. 2 Penn State and runner-up St. John's.
The Colonials held Princeton to a combined .009 team attack percentage (26-25-113) while GW combined to hit .205 (37-14-112) for the match.
Sophomore libero Candace Silva-Martin was named to the All-Tournament team after her match-high 17 digs against the Tigers. Junior MacKenzie Knox hit an errorless .500 on six kills in 12 attacks. Senior co-captain Leah Hill also was flawless with four kills in nine attacks for a .444 hitting percentage. GW sophomore Lauren Whyte recorded eight kills and also added five blocks including a pair of solos. Junior Alex Coward added eight kills and five service aces. Setter Katie Crosby assisted on 34 of GW's 37 kills (92%) and added eight digs.
Princeton (4-6) was led by Jennifer Palmquist's team-high nine kills, five blocks and five digs for 11.5 points. Hillary Ford added 16 digs.
GW (9-5) next plays at Pittsburgh (3-10) on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. Pitt leads GW, 9-4, in the all-time series between the teams dating back to 1977.
