WASHINGTON, DC - Stacey Schramm has been named head coach of The George Washington University softball team, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mary Jo Warner has announced. Schramm replaces Kim Staehle, who resigned in August.
Schramm takes over the Colonials' program after two seasons as head coach at Queens University of Charlotte (NC) where she guided the Royals to a 53-49 (.520) record, back-to-back Conference Carolinas Tournament Championships, and two NCAA Division II Tournament berths.
Prior to Queens University, Schramm spent three seasons at Division II Wheeling Jesuit University (WV). She coached the WJU team to a combined 60-70-2 record over three seasons and a third-place finish in the 2008 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. She has also been an assistant coach at Drexel University (2004-05) and at Bucknell University (2002-04).
Schramm, a 2001 graduate of Monmouth University, was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Hawks. As team captain her junior and senior seasons, she helped the Hawks to three Northeast Conference titles in her four seasons. She still ranks among the top five in MU's career records with 55 stolen bases and 65 walks, with 20 base-on-balls in 2000.
