Dwayne Smith Wins A-10 Rookie of the Week Award

WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington's Dwayne Smith has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's basketball the league office announced Sunday. It marks Smith's first A-10 weekly honor and the third weekly Rookie honor for a Colonial this season. Fellow freshman Lasan Kromah has won the award twice this season.
In GW's only game of the week, Smith scored 15 points in 15 minutes on 5-for-7 shooting to help the Colonials defeat Fordham, 78-53, Saturday in the Bronx.
The 6-foot-6 freshman forward from Toronto, Ontario converted all four free throws Saturday and added four steals and three rebounds. It marked Smith's third double-figure scoring effort in the last four games.
Smith's stats for the week: 1 game, 15 points on 5-7 FGs (.714, 1-2 3FGs (.500), 4-4 FTs (1.000), 3 rebounds (1 offensive, 2 defensive) and four steals in 15 minutes.
GW (13-10, 3-7 A-10) next hosts Massachusetts (9-15, 3-7) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Charles E. Smith Center.
