Golf Places 8th at Kiawah Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC -- George Washington placed 8th in the 14-team Kiawah Intercollegiate men's golf tournament Monday and Tuesday in South Carolina. The Colonials combined to shoot a 315 in Tuesday's third round led by senior Brendan Barrack's one-under-par 71.
GW finished with a team total of 935 at the par-72, 6481-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.
Barrack (74-74-71) was the low Colonial and placed in a three-way tie for fourth place for his first Top-10 finish of the Fall season. GW sophomore Martin Liu (76-77-75--228) tied for 16th place in the 78-player field. Andres Pumariega shot a 237 (74-78-85) to tie for 46th place and freshman Benton Kircher (84-83-83) tied for 69th place.
Indiana won the tournament with a 877 (286-292-299), 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Campbell (891). Longwood's Michael Young won medalist honors with a 216 (70-72-74) to edge Campbell's Matt Moot (218) and Indiana's David Mills (218) by two strokes.
Following winter break, the Colonials host the GW Invitational, Mar. 18-19, 2011, at Bethany Beach, DE. The 54-hole event takes place at the par 72, 6,834-yard Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.
