WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's and women's basketball programs will "Rock This House" during Colonials Invasion, presented by SVM Cards, at renovated Charles E. Smith Center Friday, Oct. 15. The event starts at 8:30 pm, with doors opening at 8:00 pm, and admission is free and open to the public.
This year's Colonials Invasion will be co-hosted by men's basketball junior Aaron Ware and women's basketball junior Sara Mostafa. Scheduled highlights of the event include video walkthroughs of the renovated Smith Center on the facility's new state-of-the-art Daktronics LED videoboard, original performances by both teams, The Chicago Bucket Boys percussion group, and a special appearance by GW President Steven Knapp.
The annual hoops extravaganza marks the official tip-off of basketball season and includes live music and performances from GW's Cheer and First Ladies Dance Teams, Capital Funk (GW's hip-hop dance team), GW Colonial Brass and mascots, culminating with a special-effects filled introduction of the players and coaches of the GW men's and women's basketball teams.
For over 10 years, Colonials Invasion has been one of the University's most valued traditions and is one of the featured events of Colonials Weekend, GW's Parents Weekend.
The GW men return four starters and 11 letterwinners from last season's 16-15 team which advanced to postseason play with an appearance in the Collegiate Basketball Invitational. The GW women return all five starters, as well as last year's injured stars Ivy Abiona, Tara Booker and Danni Jackson, and welcome a second straight Top 50 recruiting class.
Season tickets for Colonials men's and women's basketball are also now available at GWsports.com or by calling the GW Ticket Office at 202-994-6050.
For those fans who cannot make it to the event, Colonials Invasion will also be streamed live on GW All-Access.
