
Volleyball Sweeps Ball St., 3-0, at Towson Invitational

TOWSON, MD -- In the first-ever meeting between the schools, the GW Volleyball team shut out Ball State, 3-0, Friday in the Towson Invitational at Towson, MD. The Colonials hit an efficient .256 with 46 kills in 117 swings while committing just 16 attack errors.
Senior Katie Butz led the Colonials with 20 points on 19 kills while hitting .432 while sophomore setter Alyssa Valentine assisted on 36 of GW's 46 kills and added 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. She also added three blocks as did Katie Zulandt. Junior Leah Hill added 10.5 points on nine kills with an ace and six digs. A-10 Rookie of the Week Candace Silva-Martin contributed nine digs, the first time in 10 outings this season she failed to reach double figures.
Ball State (6-6) was led by Alisha Green's 13 kills and Karin Caudill's 16 digs. The Cardinals combined to hit just .065 on 36 kills in 123 attacks while committing 28 errors.
The GW-BSU match was the second in the six-match Towson Invitational, a round-robin tournament that features Pennsylvania and Towson in addition to the Colonials and Ball State.
GW (6-4) next plays Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Pennsylvania (7-1) at the Towson Center before taking on the host Tigers (7-4) in Saturday's 3 p.m. match.
