Colonials Finish Season With 4-2 Victory Over Hawks

CAMDEN, NJ - Sophomore Eric Cantrell returned to the mound on the final day of the season for the Colonials and his strong effort enabled George Washington to win 4-2 for the second straight game in Camden, NJ. George Washington finishes the season with a 22-33 record overall and a 11-15 record in A-10 conference play.
Cantrell gave the Colonials seven strong innings, while allowing just three hits and two earned runs. The Oakton, VA native struck out four and walked three. Junior Bobby Lucas relieved Cantrell in the eighth and recorded a scoreless frame, which enabled him to win his second game of the season. Senior Jimmy Duggan also threw a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save.
Senior Gavin Swanson and junior Tom Zebroski led the offense with huge days at the plate. Zebroski reached base five times by going 2-2 and walking in his three other plate appearances. Swanson finished the day 3-4 and also recorded his fifth double of the season.
The Colonials got big hits in the ninth inning by senior Chris Marsicano and Zebroski to break a 2-2 tie. The Colonials trailed for most of the contest, but score a run in the seventh inning to tie the score before winning the game in the ninth inning. Marsicano delivered a single to left-center to score Swanson and came around on Zebroski's second double of the game two batter's later.
Redshirt junior Sean Rockey finished the day 1-4, and finished the season with a .420 batting average to lead the team. Rockey also led the team in home runs with 10, and hits with 81. Zebroski led the team with 17 steals in 21 stolen base attempts.
The Hawks finished their season with a 16-30 overall record and a 9-17 record in A-10 play.
