ARLINGTON, VA - George Washington baseball got their first win of 2009 in grand fashion as they pounded out 17 hits today in the 13-9 over Lehigh Saturday at Barcroft Park. Tim Reeves and Gavin Swanson each had three hits to lead the Colonials and drove in seven of the 13 runs in the winning effort.
Pat Lehman (1-0) started his second game of the season and threw five innings and allowed just one earned run to pickup his first win. Lehman struck out five and walked just one batter. Lehman has now allowed just two runs in his first 12 innings of the young season.
Swanson and Tom Zebroski hit the home runs for the Colonials, who scored in five of their eight at bats. The big blows to the Mountain Hawks were in the fourth and fifth inning where the Colonials scored three and then five runs in the fifth. Four eighth inning runs by the Mountain Hawks made the game close in the end, but Tommy Gately pitched the final two innings to lock up the victory.
The Colonials will get back at it on Sunday as they face the same Lehigh for a doubleheader. First pitch of the opening game is set for 12:00 p.m. Stay tuned to www.GWsports.com for a full recap
