WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington women's lacrosse head coach Tara Hannaford has announced nine commitments for her 2009 recruiting class, which includes a trio of 2008 US Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-Americans.
"I am very excited to announce this group of student-athletes," said Hannaford, who enters her second season as GW head coach in 2009. "I believe each of these nine newcomers will add to the depth and strength of our returning players. This class brings speed and athleticism to the team. I expect this class to have an immediate impact on our program."
GW closed the 2008 season with wins over previous league unbeaten Richmond and Saint Joseph's to narrowly miss qualifying for the A-10 Championship for the second year-in-a-row. The Colonials finished 5-11 overall, 3-4 in the Atlantic 10, with nine of the team's 11 losses coming by four goals or less, including four one-goal losses. Hannaford is set to return 17 letterwinners and six starters for 2009.
