WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington junior Chris Neary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope/Scottsdale CC) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Neary shared the honor with St. Bonaventure's Cody Vincent.
Neary, a transfer from Scottsdale Community College (AZ), took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and pitched eight innings of shutout baseball to lead GW to a 5-0 victory over Massachusetts on Friday. He allowed just two base runners all day. Neary, who at one point retired 13 batters in a row, worked the first eight innings of the game and allowed just an infield single and one walk, while recording a pair of strikeouts to earn his first win at GW.
Neary combined with closer Jimmy Duggan to blank UMass, marking GW's first home shutout since May 14, 2005, when they beat La Salle, 1-0. In 36.1 innings pitched this season, the left-handed Neary has struck out 33 batters, 12th in the A-10.
St. Bonaventure's Cody Vincent earned a win and two saves in three appearances last week, allowing just two runs in 13 innings.
George Washington hosts George Mason Tuesday, Apr. 8, at 3:00 p.m., at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA.
