Golf Takes 4th at Notre Dame Irish Invitational

SOUTH BEND, IN -- George Washington sophomore Cole Turner was one stroke off the pace with a two-round 140 (70-70) to finish third at the Notre Dame Irish Invitational men's golf tournament in South Bend, IN. The one-day, 36-hole event was played Saturday on the par 70, 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course. Notre Dame's Eddie Peckels and Northwestern's David Lipsky, each with a one-under-par 139, were declared co-champions when darkness set in before an individual playoff could begin.
The Colonials finished fourth in the nine-team field with a total 586 (290-296), 26 over par and three strokes behind third-place Cleveland State (583). Northwestern won the tournament with a 568 (288-280-56), two strokes ahead of host Notre Dame's 570 (282-288).
Turner, an Indiana native, averaged 2.88 strokes (-1) on the par-three holes and an even-par four strokes on all the par-four holes. He birdied six of the 36 holes Saturday.
GW senior Conor McMahon was the next-lowest Colonial after firing a 144 (69-75), including a first-round 69, which put him in a five-way tie for 12th place. McMahon parred 27 of the 36 holes while teammate Lewis Sturdy carded 28 pars en route to a 145 (71-74) and a 17th-place finish.
Next up for the Colonials is the Princeton Invitational April 12-13, at Princeton, NJ. The 54-hole event takes place at the par-71, 6,380-yard Springdale Golf Club.
