Baseball's Brian Frazier Presented with 2008 Jackie Robinson Award

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington's senior right-handed pitcher, Brian Frazier (Allentown, PA/Emmaus), was presented with the 2008 Jackie Robinson Award Thursday night at "The First," a celebration of the 61st Anniversary of Jackie Robinson and the integration of Major League Baseball, presented by GW President Steven Knapp and the GW Jackie Robinson Society.
The award is given in recognition of qualities exhibited that reflect the courage and perseverance of Jackie Robinson.
Frazier began his career at GW in 2005 and broke into the starting rotation as a freshman. That season, he posted a .875 winning percentage (7-1), second best in the Atlantic 10 Conference, in 14 appearances, including nine starts. Frazier was named A-10 Rookie of the Week after earning a complete-game win at Old Dominion (Feb. 22).
Injuries limited his time during both his sophomore and junior season, but he still managed to earn a save and record 40 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched. This season, his last in a GW uniform, Frazier has posted a 1-1 mark in five appearances, including a perfect 9th inning to preserve GW's win against Saint Joseph's at Nationals Park.
Last night's event also featured the presentations of Jackie Robinson Society Community Recognition Awards to Bobby Mitchell, the first African-American to play for the Washington Redskins, and JC Hayward, Washington, DC's first female news anchor, for displaying the courage, commitment and perseverance associated with Jackie Robinson's life and legacy, and for their substantial impact on the DC-community.
