PHILADELPHIA, PA -- George Washington's Eddie Newland and Brendan Barrack have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for men's golf the league office announced Monday. It marks Newland's first and Barrack's fourth A-10 weekly honor this season.
Newland, a junior from Piedmont, CA, was the low Colonial with a three-round 228 (75-72-81) at the third-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate men's golf tournament, hosted by Francis Marion University on Hilton Head Island. The final round of the two-day, 54-hole event was played Tuesday, Feb. 26, on the par 72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation course. The Colonials finished 11th in the 15-team field.
Barrack was the next-lowest Colonial after firing a 230 (76-75-79), which put him in a tie for 35th place. The Toronto, Canada native also won A-10 Rookie awards on Sept. 10 following his collegiate debut, again on Oct. 1 and, most recently, on Oct. 15. Barrack's 76.2 stroke average is fourth-best on the team.
Following their annual spring break trip, the Colonials next host the 10th Annual GW Invitational March 21-22, at Bethany Beach, DE. The 54-hole event takes place at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.
