WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington sophomore Sean Rockey (Sammamish, WA/Eastlake/Columbia Basin CC) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Rockey, a transfer from Columbia Basin Community College (WA), finished the weekend 5-for-13 (.385) with two doubles, six runs scored and five RBI. In his first game with the Colonials, a 12-5 win over NJIT, Rockey reached base five times as he went 4-for-5 with a walk and four runs scored and another four driven in.
Rockey got the start at shortstop in all three games as GW competed in the Courtyard by Marriott Baseball Classic, hosted by USC Upstate in Spartanburg, SC. The Colonials went 3-0 in the tournament, hitting .342 and tallying 38 hits in the three games. It marks the first time GW has started a season 3-0 since 1993.
George Washington will make their home debut this weekend when they host Yale in a three-game non-conference series. The series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 1 beginning at 12:00 p.m. The series concludes with a single game on Sunday, also at 12:00 p.m.
