Post-Game Quotes
GW Coach Joe McKeown
Opening statement
"It was a great crowd today at Think Pink Day at GW. I was really happy with the way people responded to that with the issues of dealing with breast cancer and raising awareness."
"We played a little sloppy at times, but it was a physical, hard-fought game. We did what we had to do in the first half. Jessica Adair really established herself today. Beck looked to score in the first half, and that really helped us."
What fine-tuning is needed in the coming month?
"We have to get some scoring off the bench...Those guys have to help us down the stretch. It's hard to rely on just five people. We play aggressively, so you'll have nights when people are in foul trouble and other people need to step up. That's something we really have to establish over the next five or six conference games."
What was the difference in building a big lead?
"They had six field goals in the first half. I thought we really contested them and turned them over. We did a great job defensively, and that allowed us to get out and run on offense, and that created some opportunities."
The combination of Jessica inside and Kim outside really seemed to work today.
"When you have a great point guard...and you have a dominant center, that puts you ahead of a lot of teams in college basketball. The elite teams have that...That gives you a chance to set the pace of the game."
Senior guard Kimberly Beck
Are you glad that Coach McKeown finally has his 500th win?
"When there's a record that someone's trying to beat, it's more of a distraction than anything else. We tried to overlook it. We're glad it came so he wouldn't have to keep pushing for it. But he definitely earned it."
Is there something you all want to work on in the next couple of games?
"Our defense, we have to continue to improve on that. And intensity and execution, being in the right place at the right time. Rebounds have been our Achilles Heel this year. We need to improve on that if we want to go further in March."
Where do you think the offense is now?
"I think we still have some work to do. The second half, we didn't execute the way we should have. In the first half, we slowed it down by a half step. We weren't rushing things, we went inside out, and that worked for us."
Junior center Jessica Adair
You and Kim had a lot of success going inside out today.
"The inside post is hard to guard when you're knocking down shots from outside. You can't double the post. It's a pretty good combination that's hard to guard."
Was it good to win a game handily after so many close ones?
"It's always nice. I like the competition, though. But it's good because you can get the whole team involved and they can get some minutes."
Have you been working on your foul shooting?
"Early in the season, I faded away from the basket a lot and didn't get the foul call. Now, I'm working on going to the basket and free throws usually follow."
