Golf Struggles at Xavier Invitational

LOVELAND, OH - The George Washington Golf team combined to shoot a three-round 896 (307-287-302) to finish last in the 20-team Xavier Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 6,921-yard Oasis Golf Course near Cincinnati. Eastern Kentucky won the event with a 846, five strokes ahead of runner-up Marquette (851).
For the third straight tournament, GW sophomore Brendan Barrack was the low Colonial with a 214 (75-69-70) that included a second-round 69 on Tuesday. He tied for 19th in the 104-player field. Barrack took advantage of the par-4 holes on which he averaged a sub-par 3.93 strokes.
Marquette's Mike Van Sickle was the individual medalist with a 17-under 199 (64-68-67), eight strokes ahead of Toledo's Nathan Wine (64-70-73--207).
GW freshman Martin Liu tied for 57th with a 223 (78-71-74) wile senior Lewis Sturdy fired a 230 (74-74-82) to tie for 82nd after hurting his back during the third round.
In the same event last year, GW shot an 888 to place 17th.
The Colonials will close out the Fall portion of the 2008-09 schedule Oct. 27-28 in the 36-hole Sea Scape Collegiate hosted by Old Dominion University at Kitty Hawk, NC.
