WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University baseball Head Coach Steve Mrowka has announced that he and his staff will host an instructional clinic for high school aged baseball players this fall. The one-day program, scheduled for Saturday, November 3, is open to players in the classes of 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Each participant will have the opportunity to learn in a pro-style workout, receive instruction from Division I college coaches and demonstrate what they have learned in an afternoon game.
Mrowka and his two assistants, Bob Smith and Dan Hodgson, will lead the clinic. Mrowka is entering his fourth year at GW, during which he has seen 12 former Colonials drafter or signed to professional contracts. Smith is beginning his first season at Foggy Bottom, after spending the past 12 years establishing the Richmond Baseball Academy, an organization that has developed over 160 college baseball players, including first-round MLB draft picks Matt Moses (#21, 2002) and Justin Verlander (#2, 2004), the 2006 American League Rookie of the Year. Hodgson is the longest tenured assistant on the staff, having spent the past two seasons with the Buff and Blue, first as a volunteer assistant and then last year as a full-time member of the coaching team.
The all-day event will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m., and conclude after the game, at 4:00 p.m. For more information, please see the attached brochure or contact the baseball office at (202) 994-0327, or hodgsond@gwu.edu.
George Washington was 23-31-1 overall in 2007 and 14-13 in the A-10, finishing just one spot out of the conference tournament, despite ending the year with a season-best six-game winning streak. It was their 14th straight season with at least 20 wins.
