Golf At A-10 Championship Friday-Sunday

WINTER GARDEN, FL -- The George Washington Golf team will compete in the 29th annual Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Golf Championship this weekend, May 4-6, at the par-72, 6,837-yard Panther Lake Course at Orange County National Country Club near Orlando, FL. The Colonials placed fifth at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship with a team total 860 (294-285-281), 23 strokes behind tournament champion Charlotte (837).
The Championship tees off on Friday, May 4, with Charlotte looking to defend its title. A year ago, the 49ers claimed their first A-10 title in their first season as a member of the Conference with a three-stroke victory over Xavier. Charlotte, Xavier, Rhode Island (third), Richmond (fourth), and George Washington (fifth) all used their Atlantic 10 Championship finishes to springboard into the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
Joining Charlotte and Xavier in the quest for the A-10 title are Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Rhode Island, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, and Temple.
Tee times for all three rounds of the Championship begin at 8:00am.
Last year, GW received an at-large bid to compete in the 2006 NCAA Men's Golf Regional for the first time in 60 years. The Colonials played in the 54-hole East regional at the par-72, 7,215-yard Lake Nona Golf Course in Orlando, FL, May 18-20. GW was the No. 23 seed in Orlando and was one of five Atlantic 10 Conference teams to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The Mid-Atlantic Region, of which GW is a member, is made up of 50 schools which received four NCAA bids.
