Elana Meyers Voted First Team Academic All-America

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University senior third baseman Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) has been voted to the ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-America softball squad, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Meyers, who shared the 2007 Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Student-Athlete of the Year with fellow First Team honoree, Adrienne Repsher, of Temple, received the distinction for the second straight season.
Meyers became eligible for the CoSIDA national Academic All-America ballot after being voted a First Team All-District 2 performer.
Since leading GW to its first-ever Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance , Meyers has collected a number of accolades including earning First Team All-Conference and NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team honors, as she led the team in 2007 in nearly every offensive category.
As a senior, she was the team leader in batting average (.413), runs (26), hits (59), doubles (14), RBIs (25), total bases (82), slugging percentage (.662), on-base percentage (.485), sacrifice flies (3), and sacrifice hits (9). Meyers hit an astonishing .532 in conference-only games, which led the A-10. She also led the league in hits, doubles, and total bases in A-10 games.
Meyers' name will appear on GW's career record books for many years to come, as she ranks in the top four in every offensive category. After becoming the first GW softball signee, Meyers started all 192 of GW's all-time games. Meyers leaves Foggy Bottom as GW's all-time career leader in batting average (.356), on-base percentage (.430), runs (111), hits (202), doubles (32), triples (15), total bases (297), walks (63), and stolen bases (68).
In the classroom, she is a eight-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Softball First Team Sports-Scholar and has been a member of the GW Athletic Department Dean's List every semester. She earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science in December 2005, and will pursue a master's degree in exercise science.
