Mickey Shupin Recipient of 2007 Fulton Memorial Award

WASHINGTON, DC - Mickey Shupin (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) has been presented with the Warren H. Fulton III Memorial Award, the George Washington baseball team announced on Thursday.
The Fulton Memorial Award is given annually to the Colonial baseball player who best exemplifies the spirit, teamwork and sportsmanship demonstrated by the late Warren Fulton, who played baseball for GW from 1986-1988.
Shupin finished his playing career at GW (2003-2007) this past Saturday, in the Colonials' 6-2 win over Duquesne University. Earlier this season, at Rhode Island (5/6/07), Shupin stole his 72nd career base, breaking the George Washington record that had been in place for 21 years. The native of Sea Girt, NJ, made 190 appearances in the Buff and Blue and finished his GW career with 115 runs scored, 175 hits and 79 stolen bases. His 33 swipes this season led the A-10 (as of May 20th) and established a new personal season-high.
Shupin earned his bachelor's degree in international affairs last year and is currently working toward his master's in sports management.
Past winners of the Fulton Memorial Award include Michael Parker (2004-2007), Ryan Roberson (2002-2005) and last year's recipient, Josh Wilkie (2003-2006).
George Washington was 23-31-1 overall in 2007 and 14-13 in the A-10, finishing just one spot out of the conference tournament, despite ending the year with a season-best six-game winning streak. It was their 14th straight season with at least 20 wins.
