WASHINGTON, DC - Thursday's Atlantic 10 conference matchup between the George Washington Colonials (14-13, 1-5 A-10) and the Saint Joseph's Hawks (5-13, 1-1 A-10) was pushed back to 3:00 pm at the Mount Vernon Softball Field. The first pitch had been originally been set for 2:00 pm.
The Colonials are coming off a split with conference rival Charlotte this weekend. GW won the first game behind a five-hit shutout by freshman Amanda Gabriel and a solo home run by junior Jackie Yaniga. The 49ers defeated the Colonials, 9-4, in the second game despite home runs by Yaniga and sophomore Tori Sensi. Yaniga is now tied for the Atlantic 10 lead with five home runs. She now has 21 homers for her career which is tops in GW Softball history.
Gabriel and senior Elana Meyers are also among the conference leaders in key categories. Gabriel is fourth in the Atlantic 10 with a 2.22 ERA to go with her 7-5 record. Meyers is fourth in the conference with a .405 batting average and tied for fifth with eight doubles.
The Colonials will also take on Saint Joseph's on Friday, April 6, at the Mount Vernon Softball Complex at 2:00 pm, and will also host Temple on Saturday, April 7, in a 12:00 pm conference doubleheader.
