WASHINGTON, DC -- The defending Atlantic 10 champion George Washington men's basketball team will open the doors to Charles E. Smith Athletic Center on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 5-6 p.m. for students and fans who wish to get a sneak peek at the Colonials. Coach Karl Hobbs will participate in a question-and-answer session following the workout. Admission is free.
Head coach Karl Hobbs begins his seventh season in Foggy Bottom when the Colonials open the season at home against Mount St. Mary's Nov. 10. GW also faces Auburn Dec. 2 in the 13th Annual BB&T Classic at Verizon Center. GW's lone preseason exhibition game will take place Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. against UDC.
The Colonials, 23-9, 11-5 A-10 in 2006-07, return All-Conference guard and 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Player, Maureece Rice as well as junior Rob Diggs (Brandywine, MD/Gywnn Park H.S.). They will be joined by Virginia Tech transfer Wynton Witherspoon and four highly-touted freshmen.
In addition, the Atlantic 10 Conference is inviting fans to ask questions of any A-10 head coach about the upcoming season by submitting questions online. Questions will be randomly selected at the conference's Media Day in Atlantic City, NJ. In addition to all 14 of the men's head basketball coaches, including GW's Karl Hobbs, four women's basketball coaches also will be available to answer questions. Karen Aston of Charlotte, GW's Joe McKeown, Dawn Staley of Temple and Xavier's Kevin McGuff are the women's coaches who will be available to answer questions.
