Lisa Iancin Named Assistant Softball Coach At GW

Washington, DC - Lisa Iancin has been named as the Assistant Softball Coach at The George Washington University, Head Coach Kim Staehle announced on Monday.
Iancin (pronounced "eye-ANN-sin")comes to Foggy Bottom after spending last year as a softball clinician/private instructor, as well as playing in her second season as the starting second baseman for the New England Riptide, of the National Pro Fastpitch league (NPF). In the 2006 season, Iancin assisted the Riptide in a national championship, making herself as one of two NPF players to receive two championship rings in her professional career. Known for her defense at second base, she was named the NPF Defensive Player of the Year in 2005. In 2004, Iancin played for the New York/New Jersey Juggernaut to capture the championship in the inaugural season of the NPF.
Iancin was the head coach of the 18U East Coast Starlites out of Flemington, NJ, while serving as the Director of Softball Operations at the Jack Cust Baseball Academy in 2004.
She played on the 2003 National Pro Fastpitch All-Star team where she concurrently served as a public relations representative to promote the league, on a nationwide tour in conjunction with Major League Baseball.
Prior to playing professionally in the U.S., she was recruited to play overseas in Italy for Team Bussolengo. Upon her return to the states, Iancin became the head coach for the Berkeley High School softball team in Berkeley, CA.
As a 2001 graduate of the University of California-Berkeley, she was named First Team All Pac-10 at second base as a senior. She finished her career at Cal ranked among the career leaders in several offensive categories including hits, homeruns, doubles, and batting average.
Iancin succeeds former assistant coach Kristine Himes, who under former coach JoAnne Ferguson, helped guide GW to a 24-28 record last season.
