Volleyball Shut Out by Davidson, 3-0

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The George Washington volleyball team lost its third straight match in the Wake Forest Black & Gold Challenge, this time to Davidson, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Winston-Salem, NC. The Eagles defeated GW by the scores, 30-21, 30-25, 30-19, in one hour, 15 minutes at Wake's Reynolds Gymnasium.
The Wildcats outscored GW in points, 68-45, and amassed 53 kills to 38 for the Colonials. GW senior Juliene McLaughlin totalled a team-high 13 points on 12 kills and a block solo while recording 11 digs for her sixth double-double in 12 matches this season. Freshman Abby Syverson hit .312 with seven kills in 16 swings with three block assists. GW senior Kelly Kabbes hit .333 with six kills in 15 attacks while committing just one error.
Davidson's Katie Pierucci and Kittery Neale had 13 kills each for the Wildcats and Pierucci added a match-high 17 digs.
Davidson (8-7) combined to hit .261 with 53 total kills to .112 (38 kills) for GW.
Serving was again a problem for GW who, for the second straight match, managed only one service ace (Abba Greenleaf) while the opponent registered seven aces.
The Colonials had four players in double-figure digs led by sophomore Libero Maggie Wright and senior setter Kaimana Lee with 12 digs each. Lee was subsequently named to the six-player all-tournament team. McLaughlin and Liz Moult added 11 digs apiece.
GW (7-5) next returns home to open A-10 Conference play against defending A-10 champion Dayton on Friday, Sept. 22. The 7:00 p.m. match is part of Parents/Alumni Weekend for Colonials Volleyball.
