WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington senior Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) and freshman Lewis Sturdy (Keston, Kent, England/Tonbridge) have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively in the sport of men's golf, the conference office announced Monday. It marked the second A-10 weekly honor this season for both and the fourth of Carroll's career.
The 2005 A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year for golf, Carroll tied for medalist honors last Tuesday at Mesquite, NV. Carroll carded a 69 for the 18-hole match. He leads the team with a 71.7 stroke average through seven tournaments.
Sturdy shot a 77 in the same match to tie four others for 13th place among 18 golfers. It marked Sturdy's second straight A-10 Rookie of the Week award. He has a 78.7 stroke average through his first seven collegiate rounds. The match was played at the par-72, 7,008-yard Palms Golf Course located 80 miles north of Las Vegas.
The Colonials are in Williamsburg, VA this week competing in the William & Mary Colonial Invitational at the Kingsmill Resort.
