Post-Game Quotes
GW Coach Joe McKeown
Opening comments
"It was a tale of two halves. The biggest positive from the first half is that we got their lead under double-digits. That was important because they were in control in the first half. We were much more aggressive in the second half. We did a better job on Megan Frazee, but she's a tough player. Kenan and Sarah-Jo started to make some shots, which helped us."
"Liberty is a good team. Coming out of the Big South Conference, they don't get a lot of credit or attention. But they're well coached and a good team. This is a big win for us."
What made the difference in the second half?
"We were more aggressive in our presses and traps. We made a good run at the start of the half, which was good because we weren't making shots in the first half. We were 9-for-30. We also got the pace of the game up. It really favored them in the first half."
On Liberty's strong shooting performance.
"They're good shooters and a very balanced team. They can play inside, outside. What surprised me is how well they rebounded the ball in the first half. They had us playing on our heels. We have to become a better rebounding team. All our big kids have been hurt, which isn't an excuse. But we only have three games in the next four weeks or so. Hopefully, that will help us get those injuries out of the way."
Kimberly Beck had one shot against Tennessee and 13 today. Did you say anything to her?
"Yes, I told her to shoot. Against Tennessee, she played a great floor game. But against them, you need to find your offense in different places, and we were stuggling to score. Today, she knocked down some big shots. She's one of those clutch players and will make big shots when she has to."
Junior guard Kimberly Beck
How do you all handle shooting droughts?
"You just have to take the same shot every time. If you change your shot, you'll just get worse. You just stick with it. Kenan's a great shooter and knows the shots are going to fall eventually."
What kinds of changes did you make after Tennessee?
"These are two totally different teams defensively. Tennessee was in your face, and Liberty sagged off a little. I took shots when they were there. It wasn't anything that I changed."
Senior guard/forward Kenan Cole
What made the difference in shooting in the second half?
"I think it was a matter of taking a little more time taking shots. But coach told me to keep on shooting because they would go in."
Are you becoming more of a balanced team?
"I think so. The more we play together, the more we know we learn where people are going to be in the offense. We can free people to get open looks, and they can finish."
