WASHINGTON (AP) - Senior Kenan Cole scored 10 of her 15 points in the second half and junior Kimberly Beck added 14, leading the No. 21/19 George Washington women's basketball team to a second-half rally on Sunday to douse the Liberty Lady Flames, 74-66.
The Colonials had trouble keeping tabs on guard Megan Frazee, who scored 18 of her 28 points in the first half. Liberty (5-3) led by eight at halftime, 37-29, after holding George Washington to only 30 percent shooting (9-for-30) from the field.
Beck sank two 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes, giving the Colonials (8-2) their first second-half lead and sparking a 16-12 final run. Junior Sarah-Jo Lawrence scored in the final second of the game, drawing a foul to cap off the victory.
Lawrence and sophomore Jessica Adair both finished with 13 points and junior Whitney Allen added 11 points, a season-high matching four steals, and team-high tying seven rebounds. Lawrence equaled Allen's seven boards and chipped in a game-high five assists and three steals.
The Colonials take a six-day break for final exams before hosting Auburn in their final non-conference home game on Saturday, Dec. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
Notes: Five players reached double-figures for the fourth time in GW's first 10 games. The Colonials also accomplished the feat against UMBC, TCU and James Madison ... The win marked GW's fourth second-half comeback win of the season, with others coming against Arizona, TCU and James Madison ... GW scored a season-high 25 points off 17 Liberty turnovers ... GW's 22 made free throws tied a season-high set versus TCU ... Beck tied Lisa Cermignano for sixth place on GW's career assists list with 399 and is two three-pointers shy (122) of tying Marlo Egleston (124) for sixth place on the career three-point field goals made list.
