Golf Struggles to 14th-Place Finish at 49er Classic

CONCORD, NC -- George Washington had a rough time at the Sleep Inn & Suites 49er Classic Monday and Tuesday placing 14th in the 15-team field at the Cabarrus Country Club in Concord, NC. The Colonials combined to shoot a three-round 937, 73 strokes over par at the par-72, 7,098-yard course.
Host Charlotte put both of its A and B teams atop the leaderboard Tuesday to win the tournament. Charlotte senior Ray Sheedy shot 68 in rounds two and three to finish at seven-under and win individual medalist honors, six strokes ahead of South Florida's Tyler Hitchcock.
GW sophomore Lewis Sturdy was the low Colonial at 323 (75-82-75) which tied him for 38th place amoong 80 golfers.
The Colonials return to North Carolina to compete in the 36-hole Old Dominion Sea Scape Intercollegiate, Oct. 30-31, at Sea Scape Golf Links in Kitty Hawk, NC.
