PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The George Washington volleyball swept La Salle, 3-0, at LU's Tom Gola Arena Saturday. The Colonials won by the scores 30-24, 30-21, 30-25. The triumph snapped a three-match losing skid by GW and gave the Colonials their second A-10 victory of the season.
GW senior Juliene McLaughlin led the Colonials with 9.5 points on seven kills, a pair of service aces and a block assist and had a team-high 11 digs. Fellow senior Kelly Kabbes also added seven kills and four block assists for nine points.
GW freshman Abby Syverson had her second straight solid effort for the Colonials scoring 6.5 points while hitting .308 with five kills and just one error. Senior setter Kaimana Lee led GW with 25 assists.
GW used strong serving and cut down on its attack errors to prevail over the Explorers. GW served eight aces and committed just 18 attack errors for the match compared to La Salle's 27 attack errors and eight service errors. GW combined to hit .181 for the match compared to LU's .101. The Colonials were strong at the net combining on 10 blocks compared to just 2.5 total blocks for La Salle.
La Salle (7-19, 0-8 A-10) was led by Stephanie Owen's 15.5 points on 13 kills, a block assist and two service aces. The Explorers' Amy McKeon was efficient hitting .462 with eight kills in 13 swings while committing just two errors.
The victory gave GW a 24-1 lead in the all-time series with the Explorers. The teams will meet again this season on Nov. 10 at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center.
GW (9-10, 2-5 A-10) returns to Washington to host Fordham an Atlantic 10 Conference match Friday at 7:00 p.m. The match will take place at The Field School located at 2301 Foxhall Road in northwest Washington due to a scheduling conflict. GW's home court, Charles E. Smith Athletic Center, is serving as the venue for a pair of shows by comedian Jerry Seinfeld Friday evening.
