SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (Aug. 15) - Members of the GW men's basketball team, coaches and staff finally arrived in Sydney, Australia after a full day of travel that began Saturday and ended Monday. After flying more than 10,000 miles west of Washington, DC and passing the International Dateline, the Colonials essentially lost all of Sunday and touched down at Sydney International Airport Monday at dawn Australia time (just after 4:00 p.m. Sunday EDT).
The GW party departed from Dulles Airport at 5:37 pm Saturday afternoon bound for San Francisco, CA. Following a nearly three-hour layover in San Francisco, the team boarded a United Airlines 747 for Sydney with approximately 360 other passengers in the wee hours Sunday morning.
The team took in some sight-seeing Monday morning before checking into its hotel for some rest. Tuesday, GW will travel some 90 minutes north of Sydney to face the Central Coast Waves in the town of Gosford. The GW-Central Coast Waves game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. Australia time (5:00 a.m. EDT).
