GW Hosts Denver on Sunday

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's lacrosse team (6-2, 2-0 Atlantic 10) begins a six-game homestand on Sunday, April 3 with a 12:00 p.m. showdown versus Denver (2-9, 1-1 MPSF) at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. It marks the first time the two schools have ever met on the lacrosse field.
The six upcoming home matches represents the longest home stretch in school history.
GW is coming off its second straight win, an 11-6 triumph over Richmond on April 1. The victory was the fourth for the Colonials on the road this year, which is the most wins GW has posted away from home since the program's inception in 2002.
Against the Spiders, senior Heidi Mayer tied the GW single-game assists record with five. She now ranks second on the team with seven helpers this season. Sophomore Laura Hostetler leads the squad with nine assists, 25 goals and 34 points. Freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Garman made her first career start in the contest and picked up her second collegiate win.
Hostetler and senior captain Jenny Heisler are on the cusp of cracking the 100-career point mark. Heisler has 99 and Hostetler, in just 25 games, has 96.
Denver snapped its seven-game losing streak with an 11-9 victory over American on April 1. The Pioneers are now 2-9 on the season and own a 1-1 record in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Former Maryland star Cathy Nelson Reese is in her second season as head coach of the Pioneers and is trying to build the program's national profile by playing several East Coast women's lacrosse powers, including Duke, Maryland and Towson. Reese's teammate on Maryland's 1998 national championship team, Jen Adams, is in her first year on the Pioneers' coaching staff. Adams is the all-time leading scorer in collegiate women's lacrosse with 445 points.
Steph Greenlees is the Pioneers top scorer with 30 points (24g, 6a) and she tallied five goals in Denver's win against American on Friday. Tanya Fuchs is second on the team with 20 points (12g, 8a). Steph Schneider has played the majority of the minutes in goal for the Pioneers and has 109 saves and a 13.68 goals-against average.
