WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's lacrosse team (9-3, 3-1 Atlantic 10) continues its string of home contests on Friday, April 15 when it hosts A-10 foe Saint Joseph's (4-4, 1-1 Atlantic 10) at 4:00 p.m. The Colonials are looking to get back on the winning track after having their five-game winning streak snapped by Duquesne on April 10.
Against the Dukes, GW junior Annie Howley tied her career high with four goals, including back-to-back second-half scores to force overtime. Duquesne's Laura App notched the golden goal in the extra period. The Colonials had a chance to tie the match but their last second fury was denied.
It was the first conference defeat for GW and just its second home loss of the season. GW currently stands in third-place in the conference standings, one game behind Temple and Duquesne in the loss column.
The Colonials scooped up a season-high 40 ground balls against the Dukes, helping them vault into 10th in the nation in ground balls per game at 26.16. Senior Jenny Heisler leads the club with 34 ground balls on the season. She is five ground balls away from tying senior Erin Berry's single-season record of 39 set in 2002.
Sophomore Laura Hostetler registered her team-leading 37th goal of the year versus Duquesne. She ranks 14h in the country in goals per game (3.08).
Saint Joseph's has lost three of its last four games, but defeated Massachusetts, 10-7, on April 10 to post its first league win of the year.
Kerry O'Connell is the team's most potent offensive threat. She is second in the A-10 in goals per game at 3.62 and leads the team with 30 points. She has also notched all four of the team's game-winning goals. Freshman Lindsay-Kate McCool is second on the club with 24 points and leads the team with seven assists.
Courtney Huff has made 69 saves in goal this season and been in the cage for all four of Saint Joseph's triumphs.
GW is 1-2 all-time against the Hawks with their only win coming in 2003, 7-6. All three games between the two schools have been decided by one goal.
