WASHINGTON, D.C - George Washington University sophomore right-handed pitcher Derrik Lutz (Grantville, PA / Lower Dauphin) and senior first baseman Ryan Roberson (Silver Spring, MD / James H. Blake) have been named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher and Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Lutz was brilliant in his start against the University of Delaware on Thursday, striking out 11 while not allowing an earned run as he registered the complete game win in the Colonials' 7-3 victory.
The performance marked his first career complete game. Lutz's leads GW with 37 strikeouts in 27.2 innings this season.
Roberson had four multi-hit games on the week and slugged a pair of homers while batting .478 (11-for-23). He scored six runs and drove in six.
In the Colonials' three-game series versus Cleveland State over the weekend, Roberson went 7-for-12. He leads the club with five home runs on the season.
Roberson shares the honor with Duquesne shortstop Steve Maiolo.
Lutz and Roberson are the third and fourth Colonials to be honored by the Atlantic 10 this season as pitchers Dan Pfau (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) was named Pitcher of the Week and Brian Frazier (Allentown, PA / Emmaus) was named Rookie of the Week Feb. 28.
The Colonials face Delaware State University Tuesday in Dover, DE and return home Thursday to battle Hartford. The first pitch for both games is set for 2:30 pm.
