FREEPORT, Bahamas (AP) - GW's Kimberly Beck hit two three-pointers in the final minute to keep the Colonials (1-2) close but GW could not catch No. 18 Texas (3-1) who won 59-54. The Longhorns won the Lucaya Division of the Junkanoo Jam led by All-Tournament selection Freshman Erika Arriaran's 15 points. Her teammate, Tournament MVP Tiffany Jackson added 14 points and 11 rebounds. GW senior Jessica Simmonds was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
GW last led with eight minutes left and was tied with just more than five minutes left. Arriaran tied the game at 36-all with two free throws and then added consecutive 3-pointers that gave the Longhorns (3-1) the lead for good at 46-43 with less than five minutes left. The Colonials never got closer than three points the rest of the way.
Kimberly Beck scored 13 points for George Washington, which beat No. 18 Purdue on Friday. The Colonials shot 4-for-14 from 3-point range and 8-for-17 from the line.
Texas trailed 34-29 after Whitney Allen's steal and lay-in with 12:20 remaining.
Arriaran got the comeback started with a short jumper and Jackson added a free throw moments later to tie the game at 34-all.
Chantelle John gave the Colonials their last lead before Arriaran's foul shots made it 36-36.
Arriaran's first 3-pointer gave Texas a 43-39 lead and, after GW tied it up one last time, she followed with a 3-pointer from the left side.
The Colonials kept things tight and trailed 57-54 after Beck's 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining. Carla Cortijo put the game out of reach with two free throws.
