Women’s Basketball Announces Road Matchup at Northwestern

The George Washington women's basketball team and Northwestern have announced the date for their matchup in the Windy City this season. The Revolutionaries will battle the Wildcats at Welsh Ryan Arena on Dec. 18.
The Buff & Blue honored former Head Coach Joe McKeown in the final season of his coaching career, bringing him home to Foggy Bottom one final time in the first game of the series last year. The Revolutionaries walked away with a 75-62 win, the sixth game in an extended seven-game winning streak across November and December.
McKeown's guidance in Foggy Bottom helped propel GW to 15 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including four bids to the Sweet Sixteen and a trip to the Elite Eight in 1996-97. He coached seven All-Americans, was named the A-10's Coach of the Year on five occasions and has seen 16 of his former players inducted into the GW Athletics Hall of Fame. McKeown was inducted in 2012, while his 1996-97 team was enshrined in 2019.
Including the win last season, GW holds a 2-0 all-time record over Northwestern. The first came in the opening round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament, a 61-48 victory for GW that helped spark the program's run to the Elite Eight.
Carla Berube was tasked with succeeding McKeown in Evanston, entering her first season with the program. Berube spent the past seven seasons with Princeton, leading the Tigers to five Ivy League championships and five trips to the NCAA Tournament.
The Buff & Blue return five players from last year's squad, including Gabby Reynolds, who enters the year as one of the A-10's premier players. The junior guard was an all-conference third team selection a year ago and finished ninth in the league in scoring at 14.6 ppg. Sara Lewis, Kamari Sims, Tanah Becker and Jaeda Wilson all return for GW as well.
GW's roster also consists of eight newcomers, including five transfers and three first-years. The transfer group brings a combined 293 games of collegiate experience to GW and has scored 1,985 career points.
