
Volleyball Runs Over Rhode Island, 3-0

KINGSTON, RI -- The GW volleyball team played an inspired match in sweeping Rhode Island, 30-21, 30-23, 30-21 in an Atlantic 10 Conference match Friday night at URI's Keaney Gym, site the this year's A-10 Tournament. The win was the Colonials' second straight over the Rams dating back to last season. GW improved to 8-12 overall, 2-5 in the A-10 while URI dropped to 6-13 overall, 1-5 A-10.
GW junior Shannon Parks paced the Colonials' attack with 14 kills and hit .478 with a pair of block solos. GW senior Abigail Hatter was unstoppable with 13 kills in 16 attacks with just one error for a .750 hitting percentage. Kelly Kabbes hit .500 with six kills. Sophomore Janine Brown added a team-high 12 digs while senior libero Jessica Vesey added 10 digs. Setter Kaimana Lee assisted on 38 of GW's 43 kills.
Rhode Island's Jillian Bekke led the Rams with eight kills while Peggy Doino added 10 digs.
For the match, GW out-hit URI .292 (48-17-106) to .168 (36-18-107), including a dominant .586 to .212 in game three. The Colonials also had a 7-1 advantage over the Rams in service aces.
GW (8-12, 2-5 A-10) stays on the road and travels to New York City to face Fordham Sunday in a 2:00 p.m. matinee in the Bronx.
