GW's Sam Perlozzo Officially Named Orioles Manager

WASHINGTON, DC - The Baltimore Orioles announced Wednesday that they've dropped the interim label and officially named George Washington University alumnus Sam Perlozzo its manager.
Perlozzo was promoted from Orioles' bench coach to interim manager Aug. 4th.
A 1973 GW graduate, Perlozzo, 54, was an infielder for the Colonials and an Academic All-American. He was inducted into GW's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.
The Cumberland, MD native will begin his 20th season as a major-league coach or manager next year, having also served on the staffs of the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds and Seattle Mariners. He was a manager in the Mets farm system from 1982 to 1986 and compiled a 364-263 record, winning three league championships.
1990 GW graduate John Flaherty recently completed his 14th major league season as a catcher, serving the last three with the New York Yankees.
A member of the Colonials' 1989 Atlantic 10 Championship team, Flaherty was drafted out of GW in 1990 by the Boston Red Sox who he broke into the majors with in 1992.
Flaherty has also played with the Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
