NEW ORLEANS, LA - George Washington head baseball coach Tom Walter will be named the head coach at the University of New Orleans, pending his approval by the Louisiana State Board of Supervisors, the University of New Orleans announced today.
Walter spent 10 seasons at GW, the last eight as head coach. In those eight years (1997-2004) he guided the Colonials to a 275-184 overall record (.599 winning pct.). His 275 victories are the most by any GW baseball mentor. Walter led the Colonials to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years in 2002. The 2002 squad also set the school mark for victories in a single season with 42 and won the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.
Seventeen Colonials have gone on to play professional baseball during the Walter at GW and Anthony Raglani was selected in the fifth round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft after his junior campaign in 2004. Walter coached 18 first-team all-conference performers in his time at GW.
Last season Walter guided the Colonials 41 victories and five GW student-athletes were named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team.
