GW Names JoAnne Ferguson Softball Head Coach

WASHINGTON, DC - JoAnne Ferguson has been named head coach for softball at The George Washington University, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mary Jo Warner has announced. Ferguson will be responsible for all aspects of the Colonials softball program which begins its third season in the spring of 2005.
Ferguson comes to GW from Kenyon College, a Division III school in Gambier, Ohio where she has served as head softball coach for the past four seasons (2000-03).
During Ferguson?s years on the KC staff, Kenyon posted a 59-73-1 record, including a 17-15 mark in 2004, the team?s first winning season and only the second time in the program's seven-year history that they qualified for the conference tournament. Ferguson was named the 2004 North Coast Athletics Conference Coach of the Year. In 2000 her team won 18 games to set the single-season school record for most victories.
The Clarksburg, MD native began her coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of Virginia from 1997-2000 and helped guide the Cavaliers to three consecutive ACC championship games.
A 2000 graduate of Shippensburg University, Ferguson was a switch-hitter who played catcher and first base for the Raiders. Shippensburg posted a combined record of 144-60-1 (.705) during her four years on the squad.
The Colonials play their home games at the GW-Mount Vernon campus softball field located at 2100 Foxhall Road in northwest Washington.
