GW (2-1) hosts Mount St. Mary's tonight aiming to extend its win streak to three straight. Tonight's game features a rare match-up between brothers. GW's T.J. Thompson will face younger sibling Landy Thompson for the second time in their college careers. T.J. and GW won the first head-to-head meeting two years ago in the Red Auerbach Colonial Classic at Smith Center. The two have combined for 2,068 career points, the most by brothers currently active in Division I.
GW is coming off an 87-70 victory over Fairfield Sunday afternoon at Smith Center. Mount St. Mary's (1-2) is coming off a 71-49 loss to Delaware last Friday at Newark, DE. The Mountaineers opened the season with a 66-65 overtime loss to Morehead St. then defeated Longwood, 78-55, a day later in the Columbia Classic (Nov. 19 & 20) in New York City.
Tonight's game marks the eighth meeting between the schools. GW leads the all-time series, 5-2, including a 3-1 mark at Smith Center. Mount St. Mary's is led by senior G Landy Thompson (21.3 ppg, 12 assists) and Charles Cook (11.0 ppg). GW coach Karl Hobbs is 1-0 against Mount St. Mary's but has not coached against second-year Mount coach Milan Brown.
Next Game: GW hosts the 10th BB&T Classic on Sat-Sun, Dec. 4-5, at MCI Center. GW faces #11 Michigan State in a 3:30 pm tip-off following the Maryland-George Mason game at 1 pm Saturday. The consolation and championship games will take place Sunday at 12:30 and 3 pm, respectively. Both GW games will be aired live in the Washington area on UPN 20 TV and WMET 1160 AM and WAGE 1200 AM and via www.GWsports.com.
