WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington senior tri-captain Chris Barry was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the week ending on March 9th, the conference has announced. Barry went 8-for-18 (.444) during the week with five runs and five RBI. Barry ended the week hitting a home run in three consecutive games including a walk-off two-run homer in the eighth inning versus Fairfield on March 8th.
After the Colonials ralied from a seven-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, Barry won the game for GW in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the eighth. With freshman Tom Shanley on base and the Colonials down by one, Barry blasted a two-run walk-off home run to win the game for the Colonials, 10-9, in the extra frame.
Barry hit two more homers during the week both of which were three-run shots. He had a five RBI game on March 7th when the Colonials defeated Towson 20-4. His other homer came in the second game of Sunday's double header against Fairfield.
Barry ended the week leading GW in runs (14) and RBI (14). He leads the team with 32 total bases and is a perfect 6-for-6 on the base paths. His 42 career stolen bases is tied for the eighth highest total in GW history. With 21 career home runs, Barry needs one more to break into GW's top ten.
George Washington (10-4) is on a five-game winning streak and they have not lost at home yet this year. The Colonials will host Hartford for a three game series at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 12:00 PM and Sunday's game is also a noon start.
